All this AND I made $1.12!

Lots of deals out there! I've been running around chasing them all week!

CVS
I went to a different CVS to try to find that darn 2 oz. sunblock. They had one left on the shelf, so I grabbed that one plus a new green bag tag. I had a $3EB to use so I needed a filler to get to 3.00 and I have no idea where my green bag tag is. Truthfully, I am 100% sure it is swimming around on the bottom of my purse somewhere, but I haven't cared enough to really search for it. Why not just buy a new one with EBs and put 2 green bag tags to work? Anyway, I paid 44 cents on a CVS giftcard ... and I am on the hunt for one more 2 oz. bottle of sunblock.

FRY'S
I remembered today that I had a free reusable shopping bag waiting to be redeemed on each of my Fry's cards. Did you guys all design a reusable bag on Fry's website? If you didn't, make sure you do it by May 21st! Just for designing a bag (which took me less than a minute), Fry's will load a credit for a free reusable bag! If you are one of the top 10 bag designs chosen by voters, you'll win great prizes up to a $1000 Fry's gift card! Click here to get started on your design, so you can earn a free bag too! Yay for freebies! I also found 7 La Voz newspapers this morning, so I had 7 more .55/1 Mentos MQs to burn through.

Card #1 - Fry's

ALBIE'S
Within those 7 La Voz newspapers, I also found more Marcal MQs! Yay for more free TP & paper towels! Except the free TP thing didn't quite work out, the cashier gave me the evil eye as soon as she saw me loading up the conveyer belt with Marcal and Mission products. She called the assistant manager over and there was a lot of whispering and pointing going on. The cashier wanted to limit me to 3 like coupons (I wanted to use my coupons in multiples of 7), but the assistant manager reminded her the limit of 3 like coupons only applied to doubling, which I did none of today. The cashier was a little peeved and handed the transaction over to the assistant manager to complete. Fine by me, I have nothing to hide. The assistant manager was super helpful, but wouldn't adjust my 2.00/1 Marcal MQs to the 1.13 toilet paper price. She said they wouldn't change the coupon's value even though my cashier at the same store did last night. Oh well, no biggie. I had her take those off my order. Note - Those 2.00/1 MQs are beepers on the TP so be prepared to ask the cashier to adjust the value down. It's really in the best interest of the store to do this - they'll make an .87 profit!

Albie's, Fry's, & CVS = 3.12 cost!

Sorry for the crappy picture... it looked better on my camera. Now that I have it on the computer, I can see the awful glare and how distant everything is. Sorry, I am not pulling everything back out to take a better picture!
ALBIE'S

1.54 subtotal + .42 tax = 1.96 paid OOP

I wasn't sure if the $2.00 Marcal Qs would give me overage on the 1.13 packs, so I added the bananas & cantaloupe just in case. The 2.00 Qs beeped and they were adjusted down, so no overage there, but that's ok. This was a great Albie's run and I will definitely be heading back for more money making Kraft Mac & Cheese!

I had a ton of DiGiorno House Party MQs expiring 4/30, so I wanted to use those up. We had a Suns playoff pizza party with some friends so the free DiGiorno was perfect!

CVS
I was able to print two more of these 1.00/1 Fig Newton IPQs, so I grabbed two more free boxes. No tax, so no OOP!

Quick note - I aways make a point of chatting it up with the store managers at my usual stores. In regards to store managers, I have found you'll attract more bees with honey. :) Today, as I ran in to grab my free Fig Newtons at CVS, the manager pulled me aside. Just as I was thinking, "Oh great. What now?", he handed me a 2010 Entertainment Book. He said the store had purchased it and used a couple of the coupons, but didn't need it anymore. He said he wanted their best shopper to have it because he knew I would put it to good use. How awesome is that? The best part is - there are 4 5.00/50.00 Safeway coupons in it! That totally made my day!

I've been avoiding Wags all week, because it hurts my head to think about all the Register Rewards and I HATE paying tax on the pre-coupon total! Unless there are major moneymakers, for me, it isn't worth all the trouble. I really want to stock upon Skintimate shave gel & Kotex U tampons (both free and/or profitable after coupons & RR), but I really don't want to jump back on the Wags RR carousel! We'll see what's left on the Wags' shelves tomorrow... I always get sucked back in!

Mail Call Monday ... on a Thursday!

I had such a great mail day yesterday, I HAD to tell you about it!

1. Another free Cosmo magazine from my free yearly subscription - love this magazine!

2. A free sample of Pretzel M&M's from Facebook promotion last week. Husband and I ate these while we watched Siobhan get kicked off American Idol. The M&M's were yummy ... and as long as Lee and Casey are still on American Idol, I am happy! Sorry Siobhan, I'll miss your screaming notes and crazy outfits. :)

3. A sheet of Scott products MQs redeemable at Family Dollar.

4. My Food City & Sprouts ads which included... A FREE RED PLUM INSERT!!! I love getting free coupons in the mail! Yesterday, I got a P&G insert, today a Red Plum insert. Maybe tomorrow, the postman will just put cash in my mailbox.

Tuesday Shopping Round-Up! 4/27/10 edition

I grabbed some more 68 cent milk! With the way my family goes through milk, I couldn't pass up that price! I was really excited for the 100 calorie cheese packets. I thought it would be a great snack for my 1 year old and for me to take to work. I have to be honest... they're gross. I'm so sad, I really wanted them to be good. They taste like Velveeta cheese instead of Kraft block cheese. I guess that makes sense because the front of the package says "pasteurized cheese product". Kraft, if you are reading this, please make cheese cubes with REAL cheese! And if you could make it zero calories too, that would be fantastic.

I'll check at another CVS and report back.

Safeway - .68 gallons of milk!

Cheap milk? I'm in!
Although Safeway's advertised milk price this week is 1.88, Val Vista & Southern has their Lucerne milk for 1.68 per gallon through Tuesday, 4/27! An amazing price on its own, but pair it up with this .55/1 any Real California Dairy product IPQ and get your milk for 68 cents a gallon! Before you get to the register, make sure to check with your store's management to verify you can use this Q on the milk. We have discussed these Real CA coupons at length on this blog, but long story, short - the Q says the milk has to have the CA seal, the milk doesn't have it, but the label says it was produced in CA. So YMMV, but for 68 cents a gallon, I would definitely ask.

Here's my run from tonight... I had to split the milks up into 2 transactions because its a limit of 2. In the interest of time & space, I combined them here. And the Suns are up by 10 in the play offs, so I have to go cheer them on! :) I am a self-admitted fair weather fan. When the home team is doing well, I am onboard. But don't ask me any of the players names or stats, I have no idea. :)

Grab your grapes, bananas, & milk before the end of the sale on Tuesday - I've looked through the ads and all those prices are going up starting Wednesday!

Mail Call Monday 4/26/10

I got my grocery ads a day early AGAIN this week! Wow, I must be living right! :) Just kidding, but seriously, I really love getting my ads a day early so I can start planning my grocery attacks ASAP. There are lots of awesome Cinco de Mayo sales starting Wednesday, so stay tuned for my favorite deals list!

I received 4 free magazines - Forbes, Dirt Rider, Bloomberg Businessweek, & Flying. My husband will read Flying and the rest will go in the Bookman's pile for trading. I really need to make a run there this week. My stack of magazines is getting pretty tall! If you aren't familiar with Bookman's, click here!

With the grocery ads, came a free P&G coupon insert! I wonder how many thousands of these get thrown out with the "junk mail" in other households... so sad to think about all those coupons in the garbage. Almost makes me want to become a dumpster diver... almost. :)

What did you get in your mailbox?

Walgreens Fun!

I had lots of fun at Walgreens today. I got $54 worth of products and made over $11!
I did 10 transactions between 2 different stores. I won't bore you with an outline of each transaction, but here are the deals I took advantage of:

5.00 Nature's Bounty Vitamin D - Receive $5 RR = Free!
Or a moneymaker if you have any Nature's Bounty coupons. I had 5.00/1 IPQs from the Nature's Bounty rewards program - click here for details. So, I paid just tax (.40) and got $5 RR back for each of the 6 bottles I bought.
You can also use any of these coupons for an instant profit:
1.00/1 MQ 3/14 RP
1.00/1 IPQ - print here

3.49 Kotex U Tampons, Pads, Liners - Receive $2.50 RR = .99
I used these coupons to make these free:
1.00/1 Kotex MQ 4/18 SS
1.00/1 Kotex IPQ - print here

.39 Black Forest gummy bears/worms
I used .55/2 internet printables to make these 11 cents each. The IPQ is no longer available - sorry!

I threw some sugar free candy in a few of my orders for my dad's birthday. He's diabetic so he doesn't get to eat a lot of sweets, so I always make sure to spoil him on his birthday!

My stores were full stocked with Nature's Bounty, so head out for some profitable vitamins!

Tuesday Shopping Round-Up! 4/20/10 edition

If you've been a reader of this blog for any length of time, you know I procrastinate the grocery deals until the last minute on Tuesday & then run around from store to store like a crazy person! Today was no different. I will post a picture when I get home, but wanted to outline the deals I just did so you can duplicate them if you want to. Click here for a full recap of My Favorite Deals this week!

I had tons of duplicate EQs saved up, so I headed to Safeway to cash them in...

3.50 Pupperoni dog treats (2)
-1.00/1 IPQ (2) - print here
-2.00/2 (2) & 1.00/2 (2) EQs - load here
1.00 overage

2.19 Betty Crocker Warm Delight
-.50/1 MQ 3/28 SS
-1.00/1 Cellfire EQ (2) - load here
-.50/1 Shortcuts EQ - load here
1.31 overage

2.50 Nabisco 100 cal Oreo Cakesters (2)
-BOGO Oreo Cakesters MQ received in mail (auto'd at 3.59)
-1.00/2 Nabisco 100 cal Cellfire EQ (2) - load here
.59 overage

2.29 Healthy Choice frozen entree (2)
-1.00/2 MQ 3/28 SS
-2.00/2 (2) Shortcuts EQ - load here
.42 overage

2.79 Ben & Jerry's ice cream pint (2)
-1.00/1 B&J pint tearpad MQ (2) - found at Circle K
-2.00/2 (2) B&J Shortcuts EQ - load here
.42 overage

1.99 Lucerne cheese slices (3) with in-ad Q
-.55/1 Real California Cheese IPQ (3) - print here
.99 each

.89 Reese's (for my husband) :)

My subtotal after all coupons was .12 + .45 tax, so I paid .57 OOP. I was expecting a $1 OYNO for the Pupperoni, but it didn't print. Oh well, it was still a profitable purchase, so I'm not worried about it.

I spent some time this morning trying to put together a P&G run to cash in on the "Buy $25, get $10 OYNO" deal (details here), but I decided to not even bother with it. There have been lots of reports of OYNOs not printing and I didn't want to worry about the calculations. I felt much less stressed after I dropped the P&G items from my list, so I made the right decision. Maybe if I had planned earlier, it would have worked out better. It ends today & I didn't want to rush it and lose money.

I headed to Fry's for some free Lawry's marinade and spice blends after seeing this deal outlined here on Cents'Able Shoppin' - thanks for the info! The IPQs were already depleted when I tried to print them today, but I did have the MQs from Sunday's RP. My Fry's was out of Lawry's Spice Blends, so I got a raincheck for those. I was able to grab 4 bottles of Lawry's marinade for free after coupons - yay for summer grilling! I also had $8.00 in OYNOs expiring today, so I bought a $10 Fry's giftcard which allows me to spend my Fry's money at a later date. I paid the difference with another Fry's giftcard I have.

What last minute deals are you guys running around for today? Get last week's shopping out of the way tonight because next week's sales are amazing! I'll have My Favorite Deals posted bright and early tomorrow morning for the next sales cycle which starts tomorrow!

Mail Call Monday 4/19/10

Monday always brings wonderful treasures to my mailbox!
Today I got:
3 free magazines - Four Wheeler, Spin, & Cosmo
a Betty Crocker coupon booklet
a Bed, Bath, & Beyond ad with a $5 off $15 purchase coupon! - Love those!
AND my grocery ads came a day early! So exciting!

Does anyone else get "Christmas morning" excited when the ads come early? Or am I just weird? I also LOVE the free crossword that comes with the ads - I can never finish it, but I love working on it all week. I'm such a nerd. :)

No more Kashless Rewards!

Sad news... one of our favorite coupon sources has dried up (for now at least). Kashless had partnered with RecycleBank to reward "green" behavior. Once you have some RecycleBank points saved up, you can redeem them for AWESOME, high-value coupons like $4/20 CVS coupon, BOGO CVS Bag Tag, & (my favorite) BOGO Huggies Diapers. There were several ways to earn points for RecycleBank, but Kashless was (in my opinion) the easist and fastest way to build a lot of RecycleBank points. If you missed out on the Kashless Rewards program, click here for my previous post about how great it was. They may start the program again in the future, but for now it is on hold.

Here is the email I received from the CEO of Kashless, Martin Tobias: As a not for profit, Kashless.org is always in search of the best ways to promote our Reuse mission with the limited resources available. As of today, our resources to support the free Rewards benefits have expired and we are closing down the Rewards program (for now). While Kashless Rewards has come to an end, members can still use Kashless.org stay green and to give and get free stuff. Members who have earned Rewards points can access their balances over at RecycleBank at anytime. Kashless.org will continue to explore ways to increase value to our members and encourage a dynamic Reuse community world-wide.

You can still use RecycleBank to earn and redeem points for those great coupons. For example, just for joining, you get 100 points. You can get a BOGO CVS Bag Tag for 25 points. Pair that up with the CVS Bag Tag Extra Bucks deal this week and you've got 2 Bag Tags for the price of one! Click here for details on the Bag Tag EB deal - thanks Cents'able Shoppin'! We'll just have to figure out other ways to build up points. If you find any easy ways, let us know! I'll do some hunting around too.

Couponing Basics - Double Coupons

Coupons. We all know and love them. We already know using them is a great way to lower your grocery bill. Once you are comfortable clipping & using coupons, it is time to make those coupons work for you and elevate your savings to the next level. Doubling coupons will get you items at deep discounts or even free.

If you are a reader of this blog, you already know many retailers around the country will actually double the face value of your coupon. The trick is to understand which stores do this & what limitations (if any) they have.

Here are a few tips to make the most of double coupon deals:

Do a little legwork.
None of us have spare time, but doing a little prep work can save you lots of money in the long run. Check with each of your local retailers to confirm their policies on doubling coupons. I have spoiled my fellow Arizonans and done the legwork for you. The current coupon policies of our big retailers are listed on the right side of my blog. Some retailers keep a copy of their coupon policy at the customer service desk, but to be safe, I recommend printing a current copy off the store's website. It's a good tool to have in your coupon binder. Print a few copies; you never know when you'll need to educate staff members and leave them with a company document they should already have.

Know your limits.
Each retailer varies slightly on their policy. Some retailers may limit double couponing to values up to $1.00, while other retailers may double higher values.

Special Deals
Some retailers might not double coupons as standard practice, but keep an eye on these store's ads for special promotions when they do. It's not a bad idea to call your favorite grocery store & ask if they offer such deals on a regular basis. For example, Kmart (for the past few years) has run Super Double Coupon events where any coupon up to $1 in face value is doubled, which turns $1.00 coupons into $2.00 coupons. This always creates several freebies & makes me a happy Kmart shopper!

Not all coupons are created equal
Pay attention to the fine print. Some manufacturers limit their coupons' value by specifically noting “Not Subject to Doubling”, or “Do Not Double” on the coupon itself. It’s typically written in bold type across the top of the coupon. If the coupon coding starts with a 5, it will double automatically unless the cashier manually supresses it. If the coupon coding starts with a 9, it will not double.

Save every coupon!
I religiously keep every single coupon until it expires. I have dog food, hair color, & denture cream coupons even though I don't have a dog, don't color my hair (yet!), & don't wear dentures (yet!!). I have had too many missed money making deals because I threw away a coupon thinking I would never need it. You never know when Poligrip is going to be a $3 moneymaker or when a rebate will pop up for hair color. Believe me, keep all those coupons.

And finally, some love for my fellow Arizona shoppers - here is a quick overview of the Arizona grocery stores (thanks SD!):

Cheap cheese and free fruit at Safeway!

I made a quick stop into Safeway today and found lots of great deals!

2.99 Lucerne sliced cheese (3)
-in-ad Q takes off $1 for each pack - up to 3.00
-.55/1 Real California cheese IPQ - print here (3)
I paid .99 for each pack or 2.97 total! This is a great time to stock up on sandwich and BBQ cheese for the summer. These packs are good through September, so there is plenty of time to get through all this cheese. I might pick up a few more packs before the end of the sale on Tuesday.

.99 Del Monte canned fruit (3) - no sugar added
-.40/1 MQ 4/11 RP (3)
3 cans of fruit free!
NOTE: These coupons do not say "Do Not Double", but they are coded with a 9, so they don't automatically double. Make sure to alert your cashier so they can correct it at the register or go to customer service to get your money back.

.99 Hormel clearanced ham
I found one more clearanced package of Hormel lunch meat and grabbed it (using a DND .45/1 blinkie MQ) for 45 cents! Awesome deal!

I tried to get 2 jars of Del Monte Orchard Select for free using a BOGO Vocal Point MQ, but the cashier decided I needed to actually PAY for an item to use the BOGO MQ. I let it go because the coupon expires today, but technically, that's not correct. If manufacturer's coupons are actually a form of payment (which they are), then I am PAYING for the item not included in the BOGO sale. I am getting 2 free products, but Safeway will be reimbursed for the other item. I have read on several other blogs that other couponers were able to get both Del Monte jars free, so it just depends on your cashier.

Happy Tax Day! Reward yourself for paying your taxes!

April 15th is a stressful day for lots of people - accountants, business owners, & good ol' tax payers! If you are one of those people, I have great news! There are tons of freebies and great deals to celebrate Tax Day! Make sure to call your local retailers to double check they are participating in the Tax Day festivities!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Purchase ANY size drink and receive a FREE Taco al Carbon or ANY item from our Loco Value Menu! Click here for coupon!

Not sure if this is an Earth Day freebie or a tax day freebie, but we couponers don't discriminate over which kind of freebie this is! Starbucks is promoting a switch from paper cups to reusable mugs....stop in on 4/15 with a reusable travel mug & get a free cup of Starbucks coffee! I don't drink coffee...hmmm, I wonder if they would give me a Caramel Apple Cider instead. Probably not. :)

Subway is declaring April 15th "Free Cookie Day"! Anyone who walks through the door of a Subway will be eligible for one free cookie (no purchase necessary, while supplies last). Click here for more details! I will be picking up a Chocolate Chip M&M cookie. It may have almost as many calories as the 6 inch sandwich I usually order, but those cookies are sinfully delicious!

Taco Del Mar is offering up a free taco when you share your name, email, and zip code. You can opt out of its newsletter if you want and still get the freebie. Click here to get your free taco!

Papa John’s is offering a “1040″ online offer from now until midnight on tax day. Now, through April 15, Papa John’s is offering a large cheese pizza on original crust with up to three toppings for only $10.40. Click here to order online!

Snag two free cupcake bites from U.S. shopping mall based Cinnabon stores from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 15. Two cupcake bites per guest, while supplies last. Full details here!

P.F. Changs is offering a 15% discount off of your bill on tax day. See full details here!

Quick stop by Safeway!

1.19 Beech Nut baby meals (5) -1.00/1 MQ 1/3 SS (5) = .19 each
.99 Hormel ham - clearanced -.55/1 blinkie DND MQ = .45
1.40 paid on giftcard

I made an error in my weekly deals. I thought the Beech Nut MQs were actually Gerber MQs that would have matched up with the $1 sale this week. I have corrected my weekly list with the accurate pricing- sorry for the confusion!

I found this Hormel deli ham on clearance for 99 cents. A good deal on its own, but it became a fantastic deal when I noticed the blinkie MQs right next to the ham! The Hormel MQ started with a 9, so no doubling, but .45 is a great price for lunch meat! This is a good reminder to always be on the lookout for surprise deals when you are out shopping the stores!
