Getting Started

This coupon world can seem very overwhelming when you first start out, so I have created some easy to follow guides for you. Don't be scared - you can do this! Just start out with one store at a time until you feel comfortable. Feel free to ask me questions - we were all newbies once! Even if you only use one coupon at one store, you are STILL saving money, so pat yourself on the back!

Here is a 7 day tutorial to completely change the way you shop!


Coupon Lingo:
I use a lot of abbreviations on my blog, so here is the translation...
Q = coupon
MQ = manufacturer coupons
IPQ = manufacturer coupons you print from your computer, usually a limit of 2 prints per computer.
EQ = electronic coupons you can load to your store cards, like Safwway or Fry's. I have a list of EQ sites on the right side of my blog.
OOP = out of pocket. This refers to the cash you actually have to pay.
SS = Smart Source, another weekly coupon insert.
RP = Red Plum, a weekly coupon insert
P&G = Proctor & Gamble, another weekly coupon insert. Ususally comes once a month, these Qs have quick expiration dates.
GM = General Mills insert, occasionally included with weekly inserts.
ECB = Extra Care Bucks, this is CVS "cash" earned for purchasing certain products. They print immediately on the bottom of your receipt.
RR = Register Rewards, this is Walgreens "cash" earned for purchasing certain products. These print from a separate machine called a Catalina, not on your receipt.
CRT = Cash Register Tape. Coupons that print on the bottom of your receipt.
EXP = expires, referring to the expiration date.
BOGO or B1G1 = buy one, get one free
WYB = when you buy.
Peelie = a coupon found on a package that you can peel off and use.
MIR = mail in rebate.
Catalina = a coupon that prints out of a separate machine
ONYO = on your next order
$1.00/1 means a dollar off of one item.
2/$3.00 means two items for $3.00, or 1.50 per item.
YMMV = your mileage may vary. This refers to the idea that what works at one store or with one manager may not work at others.
Blinkie = a coupon that you get from those machines found in the store aisle
FAR = Free After Rebate
FARR = Free after Register Reward
