RIP Chi Hair Straightener

Today is a very sad day. I plugged in my Chi hair straightener this morning, just as I have each morning for the past two years. As it warmed up, it started to smell really bad - like it was about to catch on fire. Then I heard a click and the red light turned off .... and it hasn't turned back on. There was only a one year manufacturer's warranty, so in the trash can it went.

My unruly hair is not allowed out of the house unstyled so I need a replacement ASAP! I jumped on Amazon this morning and found this amazing deal!

Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron
$53.45 with free shipping!

I already bought mine - this is seriously a SMOKING deal! These are normally $190!

Hurry and get yours before it sells out!

Albie's Doublers Trips!

I feel like the Albie's doublers came around fast this time! It is lots of work, but there are good deals to be had! I filled a prescription at Albie's using the in-ad Q and got a $25 gift card. I only paid $3.00 for the prescription, so before I even started filling my cart, I had made $22!

I always stop by the clearance section on my Albie's trips and I hit the Glad trash bag jackpot! I found these Glad trash bags on clearance for $2.00 each! I also found this box of Mylicon for 4.00 - great price! I just paid $12 for a bottle at Rite Aid last week :(

Clearance fun at Target!

This clearance sale could not have come at a better time for me! We are finishing up last minute things to move into our new house and I needed all of this! Curtains, rugs, curtain rods, a bedding set for my daughter.... I paid a fraction of what I was dreading paying for all this stuff.

Here's the first batch of treasures - curtains and Cascade on the left, twin sheets & quilt set on the right, with some curtain hardware on the bottom...

The quilt set is hard to see, so here is a picture of it from Target.com. It's adorable in person! It has owls and squirrels and is just girly enough for my daughter.

And here's the last of it - 2 area rugs and 2 curtain rods.

.97 Cascade Trial Packs (6)
-1.00/1 MQ 8/28 PG

16.24 Circo Love N Nature Quilt/Sham Set

And the 2 area rugs were 30% off at 24.98 each.

I had a 5 off 50 Target Bed & Bath catalina coupon that I used.

Total was 131.57 + 11.23 tax = 142.80
Paid with $45 in Target gift cards and the rest cash.

This seems like a lot OOP, but I have window treatments for all of our windows, a complete bedding set for our daughter, nice fluffy rugs, and it's all super cute Target stuff - for less than a hundred dollars out of pocket. If you need any bed or bath stuff, check out your Target to see what treasures are hiding there!

We are just about ready to move into our "new" house, so I spent more out of pocket than I am used to (28.42!). I have an empty refrigerator and freezer to fill up! I headed out with my mom and my girls this morning to hit the local yard sales. I've really been finding some great deals the past couple of weeks and figured this blog was a great place to talk about it. Last week, I found a brand new breadmaker for $10! So excited.

Last Doublers Trip to Albie's!

Sorry for the fuzzy picture - camera phone picture!

Well, the doublers expired on Tuesday, so I made one last run with them. I hope this doublers thing is a monthly occurence. This is the most fun I've had grocery shopping since I moved to California almost a year ago.

AZ readers, you won't be able to replicate these deals because So Cal Albie's is different that your Albie's. But I am posting so you can see I am still alive and couponing!

2.00 Frosted Mini Wheats (2) - clearanced with 2012 expiration

More fun at Albie's with doublers!

I am officially addicted to doublers at Albie's! They don't come that often in Southern California so I am cashing in while I've got them.

My first Albie's doublers trip...

105.15 worth of groceries for 6.88 out of pocket!

I know all my AZ friends won't be able to replicate these deals - So Cal Albie's is a different company that the Albie's in AZ. But I am posting this for my California shoppers...

I love doublers at Albie's!

I had heard about them all over the frugal blog world for years and was always so jealous. I guess one this is one good thing about shopping in California. Thank goodness! I need all the perks I can get out here. AZ people - count your blessings to be where you are. I have never seen milk here below 3.00 a gallon EVER. Ugh... Anyway, onto the doublers...

This was my first experience with doublers, so I read up on the blogs about limits, etiquette, beeps, etc. I had all my items split out so I only used 2 doublers per transaction (per the coupon), but when I got to the cashier, she said she'd just combine everything! I had one doubler for each manufacturer's coupon I used. I figured I should go for the gold and cash in all the coupons I could. Getting things for free is very rare in California, even with coupons, so I went a little nuts.

Here's the breakdown...

There was a 1.88 WYB 6 sale going on-

1.88 Keebler cookies (8)
-1.00/1 yellow peelie MQ (8) found at Albie's about a month ago
-1.00 doubler for each MQ (8)
.12 overage each!

1.88 Frosted Flakes (2) These are BIG boxes! The Cars 2 promo boxes were not included.
-1.00/1 Frosted Flakes IPQ (2) - no longer available
-1.00 doubler for each MQ (2)
.12 overage each!

1.88 Kellogg's Nutri Grain Bars (6)
-1.00/2 MQ (3) I found these inside Nutri Grain boxes a few months ago
-1.00 doubler for each MQ (3)
.88 each Not free, but a good stock up price!

1.88 Pop Tarts (2)
-1.00/2 MQ (3) I found these inside Nutri Grain boxes a few months ago
-1.00 doubler for each MQ (3)
.88 each Not free, but a good stock up price!

2.04 Fuji Apples
-1.00 off fresh fruit wyb 2 Kellogg's Nutri Grain Bars MQ Also from the Nutri Grain boxes

How many Huggies wipes did you get?

I was so excited to see this Huggies wipes deal at Walgreens this week! I have two in diapers so I like to keep a healthy stockpile of wipes at all times. I went Saturday night when my store turned the next week's sale prices on to make sure I was able to use all my coupons. The shelves were fully stocked, but I didn't want to take any chances waiting until Monday (I don't shop on Sundays).

Here's what I did...

5.99 Huggies refill pack
-2.00/1 Wags coupon from August coupon booklet - these are all over the store
-2.00/1 Wags coupon from Infant Care Booklet - I've never seen these, but I was able to use the code
-.50/1 MQ 7/17 SS
1.49 each!

I also had one coupon for .75/1 Huggies wipes from a home mailer, so one of my packs was actually 1.24! What a great deal!

The Infant Care coupon booklet was out in the spring time I guess, but I've never seen it. I had the coupon code (5519) and the cashier just manually entered the numbers. As long as you have the cashier scan the manufacturer's coupons first (which is always a good rule of thumb at Wags), you won't have any beeps. It worked perfectly! I hope you all are able to find wipes in stock - this deal is all over the internet. So, hurry, hurry if you want wipes too!

Amazing deals at Safeway/Vons!

I haven't shopped at Safeway/Vons for months. Ever since they stopped accepting e-coupons with manufacturer's  and store coupons, the deals have really dried up. This week, however, is fantastic! Maybe this is a good sign of things to come! I hope so... these California grocery prices are a killer!

Sorry for the fuzzy photo - I only had my phone with me. Here's what I did...

-1.00/1 peelie found on Ronzoni pasta at Albie's last month (4)
Paid .49 for each jar and got back $1.00 OYNO for buying 4
So, after coupons & catalina, I paid .24 per jar!
You can use these coupons & still get your jars for .74 each wyb 4
-1.00/2 MQ 5/15 SS
-1.00/2 Classico printable

-.55/1 5/22/2011 SS
1.49
1.25 Gerber Graduates Pasta Pick Ups (3)
-.55/1 IPQ no longer available (3)
.25 each

Get in your cars & drive to Kmart!

I feel bad posting this on the last day of the sale, but hopefully this helps a last minute shopper!

Are you guys living at Kmart this week? Holy heck. They are doubling manufacturer's coupons .99 and less! So, that means, if you have a .99 coupon, it doubles to 1.98 off! As if that weren't exciting enough, there is also a major toy clearance going on too! This is great news for you and your stockpile closet!
As usual, Sheryl has done a great job of posting match-ups. Isn't she great? She's always so thorough! Click here to see her list.

Here's what I've been scoring deals on this week...

There is a catalina deal on Cottonelle, plus a Cars 2 $10 Visa card promo which makes this an amazing deal!
Here's the catalina info...
7/8-7/31/11
Buy 2, get $3.50 OYNO
Buy 3, get 4.50 OYNO
Each 12 pack is priced at 4.99 - which is already a great price for double roll Cottonelle.

I wanted to minimize my out of pocket, so I only bought two at a time. You do what works for you :)

Here's what I did...

Buy 2 packs of Cottonelle (12 double rolls) at $4.99 each - Look for the Cars 2 emblem!
Use (2) .75/1 Cottonelle Bath Tissue 7/17/2011 SS Insert (exp 8/28/2011)
Pay 6.98 out of pocket
Get back a $3.50 Catalina coupon
Makes each pack 1.74 each

Buy another 2 packs, using the exact same scenario above. But this time, use the 3.50 OYNO to bring your out of pocket down to 3.48.... and get ANOTHER 3.50 OYNO! This makes your net cost - 2 cents! Keep on rolling until you run out of coupons. Then, enter 5 codes on Kimberly Clark's website for a $10 Visa gift card! Wahoo! I love toilet paper deals.

There is also an awesome triple dipping Kellogg's cereal deal...

Most of the Kellogg's line is priced at 4 for $10. I had .70/1 Kellogg's peelies I found at Albie's a few weeks ago. There are tons of Kellogg's coupons out there to make this deal great! Along with this being a great price, there is an unadvertised promo when you buy $20 in Kellogg's products, you get $5 instantly taken off your total! I was leery because I saw zero signage for it plus none of the cereal was marked on sale. But, it worked! I bought 8 boxes of cereal per transaction. Here's what I did...

Buy 8 boxes of 2.50 Kellogg's cereal (look for Cars 2 Concession Cash promo) = 20.00
Register automatically takes off 5.00 = 15.00
Used 8 .70/1 peelie MQs doubled to 1.40 each = 3.80 for 8 boxes or .48 each!
I used a 3.50 Cottonelle catalina and paid 30 cents out of pocket.

Already an amazing deal right? It gets better!

Enter 4 of the Kellogg's Cars 2 Passport to Adventure codes here & get 2 $5 Visa cards!
Now you've made 6.20 buying 8 boxes of cereal!

It gets even better because you can submit 10 Rice Krispies UPC codes for a $10 Visa card! I didn't want 20 boxes of Rice Krispies because my family needs variety. But if you're purely interested in making the most profitable purchase, buy 24 boxes of Cars 2 Rice Krispies for 11.40 out of pocket, submit for (6) $5 Visa cards from Kellogg's & (2) $10 Mastercard gift cards from AARP here.... giving you a grand profit of 43.60!

Check out the shave gel match-ups on Sheryl's blog...

While you're at Kmart, check out the toy clearance. Prices are WAY lower than marked. I found a Leapfrog Tag Jr. reader marked 25.00 down from 29.99 and it rang up 1.99!!

$6.45 profit at Target!

I've been couponing out here in Southern California, but am just getting back into blogging. I had a great shopping trip to Target last night! Most of these clearance deals are going on nationwide, so Arizona shoppers, you should be able to replicate most of this. The only thing I'm not sure on is the Physician's Formula deal. I'm not sure the "Buy 2, get a $5 gift card" is working there. It may be a regional deal. You can verify by double checking to see if a gift card prompt pops up after 2 Physician's Formula products are schanned at the register. If it doesn't, just void them off your order.

Ok, onto the breakdown...

.74 Girls Cotton Tights (3) - 75% clearance
These will be great for next winter!

3.24 Girls Dress Shoes - 75% clearance
-20% off any shoes Target coupon from store remodel flyer (my store just added groceries)
2.59
GREAT price!

1.74 Energizer AAA Batteries 24 pack - 90% clearance
-1.00/1 peelie MQ
.74
WOWZERS! I was so excited to find these in my electronics department. The package has 2 of the $10 iTunes codes inside, but you need 3 to submit for the gift card. Maybe I can find some more clearanced packs at another Target. If you want to hunt for these, the DCPI is 057060283.

3.38 Dove Men's Deodorant with bonus Travel Size included (6) - clearanced
-2.00/1 6/26 RP (6)
-2.00/2 Target Web Coupon (3) - print here (not sure if coupon is still on Target site)
.38 each

1.00 Scotch Magic Tape (5) - found in Back to School section
-1.00/1 Scotch Magic Tape coupon (5) - sign up here, they will email it to you
-.50/1 Scotch Tape Target Web Coupon (5) - print here
.50 overage each
I brought both coupons because I had heard they were both beepers, so I wasn't sure which one the cashier would take. He took both and K1'd them all :)

4.94 Physician's Formula Eye Concealer (8)
-4.00/1 pink peelie MQs (8)
.94 each, plus got a $5 gift card for each set of 2, so 1.56 profit each!
I hope this gift card deal works in Arizona! I've had lots of fun with it out here in California. If you're going to attempt it, do it quick. The gift card deal ends Saturday, July 9th!

1.59 Revlon Clippers (3)
2.24 Revlon Tweezers (3)
-5.00/2 Revlon Tools Catalina MQ (3) printed out from previous Target trip
.91 overage on each clipper, .26 overage on each tweezer
For the past couple of months, these Catalina coupons have been rolling and printing out with each purchase of Revlon tools. Last night, I didn't get any. These cats have stopped printing for awhile before and then started up again. Hopefully, they'll resume printing again!

9.34 subtotal plus 4.21 tax (California tax is AWFUL!) = 13.55 out of pocket
Received (4) $5 gift cards from Physician's formula deal
6.45 profit!

The great semi-annual Target toy clearance is starting! All of the toys at my Target are 30%. They should be 75% by the end of the month, so start stalking now! I saw tons of great stuff - Toy Story, Fisher Price, Little People, etc. Also, check your garden sections - they should be at 75% now. Mine was completely picked over, but lots of people are scoring awesome deals.

I've missed blogging! It's good to be back!

Hello?

Okay. I think I am ready to bring my blog out of hibernation!

My sweet Macey is 5 months old today and things are becoming more routine and less crazy. I know the majority of my followers live in Arizona, but there is a lot of cross over between Arizona and Southern California. Target, CVS, Walgreens, Safeway is Vons out here, plus all the online deals. So, for now, the blog name and web address will stay the same.

Let's celebrate with a give away! That will really tell the story of how many people actually still check this blog!

Macey Kate

Phew, transitioning from one to two children is quite a change!
Sorry this is two months late, but here is my sweet baby girl...

Macey Kate
February 2, 2011 10:51am
9 lbs. 2 oz. 20 inches

She is definitely more fussy than my first daughter ever was, but she is a snuggle bug and we love her. My older daughter is in love with her and is such a sweet little mommy to her.

Here they are playing in our jungle play mat...

I am slowly but surely getting back into the coupon game, but I wanted to post these pictures as soon as possible so you all know I had my baby and we are all happy and healthy! For those of you that still check this blog, thanks & I hope all is well with you!

Kix Prize Pack Winner!

We have a winner!
#33 - Stacey
"I just had a baby boy last month, but if he would have been a girl, I would have used the name Avery Eden. Congrats!"

I got so many great name suggestions! I'm taking them all to the hospital with me so I don't forget any of them! I hope you all saw my update on the give away post and got your entries in on time. I am having lots of signs of labor and I didn't want to chance not being able to end the give away on Monday.

I will keep you all posted!

Anyone still out there? It's Give Away Time!

UPDATE- I AM MOVING THE GIVE AWAY DEADLINE DATE BECAUSE THE EARLY STAGES OF LABOR ARE MOVING ALONG! I'M NOT SURE IF I'LL STILL BE PREGNANT ON MONDAY. NEW DEADLINE TIME IS FRIDAY, 1/21/11 AT 12PM AZ TIME!

Well, if you happen to still be checking in on this neglected blog of mine, you are in luck! I am running a quick give away for all you loyal readers!
When it comes to starting off your day right, a new survey from Kix found that 84 percent of parents turn to cereal with milk for a quick and healthy breakfast.

Cereal is one of the healthiest breakfast choices parents can make. Ready-to-eat cereal has fewer calories than almost any other common breakfast option, while also being nutrient-dense and convenient. In addition, cereal eaters consume less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters.

With the same great taste kids have loved for more than 70 years, Kix makes it easy to serve your family a simple and healthy breakfast! Whether you choose to serve Original Kix or Honey Kix, you can be sure that your kids are getting a wholesome food with nutrients they need to grow.

The “Kid-Tested Mother-Approved®
”cereal is made with whole grain corn and is an excellent source of iron. It also is a good source of calcium, fiber, and Vitamins C and D. Original Kix has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

To find out more, visit the recently launched Kix website,
www.KixCereal.com, featuring background on the history of Kix, nutritional content, and special offers.

The lucky winner of this give away will receive a Kix “Kid-Tested, Mother-Approved” prize pack including a 24-piece counting-themed floor puzzle (super cute! - My 2 year old LOVES this puzzle), fun learn-to-count flashcards (again, super cute!), a sippy cup (I am not impressed at all - the first thing my 2 year old did was flip the cup over and dump the milk out on the floor. Fabulous.), a portable snack container (good to throw in the diaper bag), and a box each of Original Kix and Honey Kix cereals (delicious!).

Here's how to enter:
Leave a comment telling us what "go-to" cereal you feed your kids on busy mornings. Do you have a sugar limit (like 5 grams per serving) on the cereal you are willing to feed your kids?

And if you want an additional chance to enter...
I am due with my baby girl next Thursday, January 27th and she needs a name! I am a big believer in looking at babies before naming them, but I need some suggestions. As a reference, my first daughter is named Maddie. Here are the first names I like (in order of my preference) - Kate (not Katelyn or Katherine - just Kate), Macey, and Allie. I need middle names! I like Kate Chevelle (my husband is a classic car maniac) or Kate Nicole (my twin sister's middle name is Nicole), but I am open to other suggestions - including new first names I may not have thought of.

So, leave a comment telling me what I should name my new baby girl!
The Rules...
1. Two comments/entries per person (each comment must include your email address!)
2. Give away is open to US and Canadian residents ONLY.
3. Give away will close on Monday, January 24th at 9am AZ time. FRIDAY, 1/21/11 AT 12PM AZ TIME. UPDATED GIVE AWAY TIME DUE TO IMPENDING BIRTH!
4. The winner will be selected via random.org and the winner will be contacted by email. The winner will have 24 hours to claim their prize.

Disclosure: I was given a Kix “Kid-Tested, Mother-Approved” prize pack including to facilitate the review of this product. Thanks to Kix through MyBlogSpark for providing the prize pack for the review and sponsoring the giveaway for one Arizona Savings reader.  All opinions expressed are my own and no other compensation was received.

Good luck!
