My Rainy Day Has Arrived...

Bad news ... I got laid off yesterday from my job.

If you've been a reader for any length of time, you know how devastating this news is to our family. My husband has been an out-of-work pilot for over a year and has been staying home with our 2 year old daughter. So, my job was our only source of income and health insurance.

And now that I am 5 months pregnant (and showing) it will be very difficult for me to find new employment and more importantly, new health insurance for this new baby coming in January.

To say I am a little stressed is an understatement. I probably won't be posting a ton this week as I search for a new job. If I make any shopping trips, I'll post those but I am not going to write up "My Favorite Deals" list this week.

UPDATE- DON'T WORRY! I WILL DO "MY FAVORITE DEALS" NEXT WEEK, I'M JUST TAKING THIS WEEK OFF TO GET MY BEARINGS. SOME OF YOU LEFT SOME COMMENTS EXPRESSING SADNESS THAT I WOULDN'T BE DOING THEM ANYMORE AT ALL, SO I WANTED TO CLARIFY. I NEED THOSE FAVORITE DEALS NOW MORE THAN EVER!

Sorry to be a downer, but this is why I coupon and stockpile! So, when the rainy day comes I can at least continue to feed my family!

  1. God Bless! I will pray that you or hubby find a job quickly! If your stock pile runs low please don't hesitate to ASK! We fellow bloggers would love to help in any way we can. Not sure where you're located, but I'm in Casa Grande, work in Marana and frequent Phoenix often. If you want to meet up for some staples when times get rough just let me know! I'll miss your Favorite Deals - It's my favorite, but I completely understand!

  4. Kim, hey let me know if you need anything. I wish you good luck...it was hard for me before I had Rylan, as my job gave me lots of grief about being pregnant and taking off maternity leave. I can only imagine for you :(

I'm right around the corner if you need anything. =) If you ever need staples or any help with the family/kiddos let me know. I'm not working anymore. I'd be willing to help any way I can.

  21. So sorry to hear that! Just as you said, this is why we stockpile and prepare because we never know when we will need it to provide for our families. Your blog has helped so many people in AZ, I have gone from visiting over 5 websites looking for deals to pretty much only viewing yours. You truly inspire me! As others have mentioned, take advantage of the help that is out there for this type of situation. I too am pregnant understand the concern you have, but remember the programs that are there to help.

Please let us know what type of work you have been doing, what skills and experience you have, etc. There are so many who read and appreciate you blog that hopefully can help you (or your husband) with networking.

    You're in our prayers!

  22. Kim I am really sorry to hear the loss of your job. I'm sure doing all the gr8 deals that you do will help tie you over, but if you need any staples plz... let me know, I have no problem in mailing any staples that you may need. I was in your position when I was pregnant with my first child and we struggled but I thank all of my friends, family, and the Catholic church for pulling us through our rough times. Take care of yourself and especially your new bundle of joy, I'm not familiar with AZ but I believe you can get immediate medical coverage for you, your LO and your little bundle of joy! God Bless you and you are in our prayers. Again Plz.. if you need anything let us know. We are here for you, many hugsss.

  28. You should look into AHCCS for pregnant women. They offer 100% coverage for those that qualify and the income limit is surprisingly high. Just a suggestion.

I feel a little bit selfish, but I hope you keep posting all your great deals again soon! It has helped our family so much to save on groceries. Glad you have planned ahead so this isn't as devastating as it could be otherwise.

  30. My husband and I were in the same boat a large part of last year. It was very hard and stressful, but we got through it. Don't be afraid to ask for help from us or friends and family. In this economy so many people have been in the same situation and want to help.

  31. Dang, what gives? Your employer lost a very valuable employee! Under Obama's plan, they are required to pay 60% of your cobra. I'm in Phoenix and I've heard great things about our state insurance, no joke.

Praying for your family to keep your heads up and get through! :)

  33. Hey I'm so sorry to hear that. I do believe your insurance will cover you through the end of the month. That gives you some time to get on ACCESS so you don't have a lapse in coverage.
Thank you for all that you have done for my family and friends that I have shared this site with. I wish you all the best and I will keep your family in our prayers.
