It's Mega Swagbucks Friday!

It's Mega Swagbucks Friday! You can earn a ton more Swagbucks today, 30 to 1000 Swagbucks in a single search! Simply by searching the internet on a Friday! Did you know 400,000 Swagbucks are given out on Fridays? Wowza.
,
For you non-Swaggers out there, you have no doubt seen Swagbucks discussed in the blogosphere - but what is it? Swagbucks is an online search engine (like Google or Yahoo) that rewards you with Swagbucks when you search on their site. Swagbucks can be redeemed for all kinds of awesome things like books, magazines, & gift cards! If you're like me, you are probably skeptical and think it's a scam. It's not! It only takes 450 Swagbucks to earn a $5 Amazon gift card. Sounds like a lot, but you will be amazed how quickly those Swagbucks rack up.
..
.
If you're on the fence, today is a great time to sign up. Each Friday, Swagbucks are multiplied, so instead of earning 5 or 10, you can earn 50, 100, or even 1000 Swagbucks on a single search! All you have to do is click here to get started!

Shopping Bashas' - The Arizona Savings Way

Bashas' is a hometown grocery store local to Arizona. They also own AJ's Fine Food Stores & Food City. Bashas' has been family-owned and operated since 1932. There are 130 Bashas' grocery stores across the state. Couponing is hit and miss for me at Bashas'. It seems like I go a lot for a week or two, and then won't be back for months. I am a fan of supporting local business, so I like to stop in regularly to search for unadvertised deals. Unfortunately, Bashas' does not participate in E-Coupons yet, so I have a hard time justifying spending extra money there.
.
Step #1: You need a Bashas' Thank You Club Card.
Download a copy of the club card application here, fill it out and return it to your store.

Step #2: Learn the kinds of coupons accepted by Bashas'.

Manufacturer Coupons (from Sunday newspaper)
These coupons are found in the free standing inserts in your Sunday paper: Smart Source, Red Plum and Proctor & Gamble.

Internet Printable Coupons
Bashas' accepts internet printable coupons up to $3.00 in value. The coupons have to scan at the register in order for the cashier to accept them. They also must follow the same format as a manufacturer's coupon - redemption address, expiration date, and state "Maufacturer Coupon" somewhere on the coupon. Bashas' will not accept internet printable coupons for free products. This is in place to protect Bashas' from fraudulent coupons. Most of the fraudulent IPQs floating around are for free products or for very high values.

E-Coupons
Bashas' does not currently accept E-Coupons. If they ever do, you will be the first to know about it!

Catalina Coupons
At Bashas', you’ll find the gray Catalina machines sitting at the registers. These machines dispense long, receipt-like coupons. Don’t let your cashier forget to hand them to you! Catalina coupons may be store or manufacturer coupons. You may receive a catalina worth $2 off your next purchase of $10 from the produce section. Or you may get a catalina for $1.00 off planters nuts, it just depends on the coupon.

Special Promos
About a year ago, Bashas held a super coupon event where they doubled all coupons up to and including $1.00. It was amazing and there were lots of freebies. Check out some of my trips here & here! They have also run promos in the past where they accept competitor coupons. I haven't seen any of this activity in at least 6 months - probably due to the restructuring they are under after filing bankruptcy in 2009.
.
Other Retailer's Coupons
Bashas' does not accept other retailer's coupons.

Store Coupons
You can find them in the weekly store ad from your newspaper or located in the front of the store. Bashas' allows using one store and one manufacturer coupon per item. This means you can stack a Bashas' store coupon with a manufacturer coupon on one product. In-Ad Coupons usually require a minimum purchase. The minimum purchase is your subtotal before using any coupons. In-Ad Coupons usually have limits. These limits are per transaction.

Step #3: Now, we wait for the perfect sale.
If you head to the store with a handful of coupons and no plan, you'll spend more money than necessary. Wait until the sale price or promotion matches your coupons, so you can save big!

Occasionally, Bashas' runs Catalina promos like: Spend $25, save $10 on your next shopping order. When you combine a deal like this with coupons, you can get those really high savings of over 70%. Whenever you see a minimum purchase like “spend $25", remember that total is the subtotal you must reach before redeeming any coupons. If you can spend $25 and redeem $12 worth of coupons, you’ll still receive a $10 catalina good on your next shopping order.

You will also see promos like this: Buy 5 select products, receive $5 on your next shopping order. The best couponers will separate their transactions, buying 5 products at a time, and then roll the “$5 on your next shopping order” catalina from one transaction to the next. This minimizes or completely eliminates your out of pocket spending. It's always better to spend Bashas' money than actual cash.

What is Bashas' sale cycle?
Bashas' sales and weekly ads begin Wednesday and end Tuesday. The new ad and "My Favorite Deals" for the week are posted each Wednesday morning.

Does Bashas offer a senior discount program?
If you're 55+, you can save an additional 10% on your food bill (less Bashas' club savings, taxes, and coupons) the first Wednesday of every month. A minimum purchase amount may be required.

Doubling Coupons
Bashas' stores double coupons, 50 cents and under. If the coupon states "Do Not Double", the cashier is supposed to suppress the double. If the coupon coding begins with a 5, it will double automatically. If it starts with a 9, it will not double. Cashiers ignoring the "Do Not Double" restriction is a complete "Your Mileage May Vary" situation. I've had cashiers suppress the doubles, while others at the exact same location let them all double.

Store Clubs
Bashas has a few fun programs that can help save you money:

Kid's Birthday Club
Your child will receive a FREE birthday cake every year through age 10. Just prior to your child's birthday, he/she will receive a birthday card from 'Basha the Bear'. Included inside will be a coupon for a FREE birthday cake along with other money-saving coupons to help mom plan the perfect party. Click here to sign up online or you can sign up in your nearest Bashas'.

New Mom's Club
Bashas' New Mom's Club is a fun and easy way for new moms to receive valuable coupons and helpful parenting tips. Once enrolled, you will receive coupon mailers filled with valuable savings including a FREE cake for your baby's first birthday. Click here to sign up online or you can sign up at your nearest Bashas'.

Cub House
The Bashas' Cub House is a free supervised play center for young children between the ages of 2½ and 10 years old, while their parents shop our store. While in the play center, your child is cared for by trained and experienced staff. The Bashas' Cub House provides engaging and positive educational activities and social experiences that will enhance your child's development and self-esteem. Visit with your Bashas' Cub House staff to hear about all the fun activities that are planned at your neighborhood Bashas' Cub House play center. Here are some FAQs & a registration form to bring the first time you drop your child off.

How I shop Kohl's!

If I had just walked into Kohl's & paid for these two items, I would have shelled out $82.25! Oh, that makes me want to throw up.
Instead, I only paid $26.42 out the door!
I can't shop that way anymore. But I was in dire need of a new purse. I've had the same one for 5 years and its completely falling apart. The zipper came off over a year ago, the leather handles are splitting apart, and it's too small. I also wanted to buy some perfume, but I've held off for a long time because its so darn expensive!

So, here's what I did...

I've been eyeing this Daisy Fuentes purse for awhile. It's regularly $58-  yuck! But this week, the handbags are on a 30% sale! So, in the past couple of weeks, I've been gathering up any kind of Kohl's coupons I can find. Luckily, there was a $10/20 peelie on the front of the AZ Republic last week. I had a couple of those, but I still wanted to wait for a Kohl's 15% off shopping pass. They email these out all the time and I know from previous shopping trips, you can stack both of these together. The stars aligned today and I received a shopping pass in my inbox this morning! I also have been hanging onto a $25 Kohl's giftcard my aunt gave me for my birthday, so off to Kohl's I went today.

#1
40.60 Daisy Fuentes Handbag - discounted 30% sale
-4.59 15% shopping pass
-10.00 10/20 peelie coupon
26.01 + 2.29 tax =
28.30 paid with $25 gift card and 3.30 cash

#2
35.00 Cool Water Perfume
-3.75 15% shopping pass
-10.00 10/20 peelie coupon
21.25 + 1.87 tax =
23.12 paid in cash

That's a total savings of 68%! While it always hurts me to shell out actual cash on things for myself, I am really excited to have timed this sale up just right with the perfect coupons! If you have those coupons too, make sure to print out a savings pass and hit Kohl's before the end of the weekend! I'm sure you could have a lot less out of pocket if you shopped the clearance racks, but I was on a mission for specific things.

Thrifty Tidbits - 6/17/10 edition

Wow, look at these grcoery ads from the 1950's... 21 cents for Kellogg's Corn Flakes?

Well, Arizona Savings readers, I am getting ready to go on vacation! We are leaving Saturday and won't be back until late Wednesday. I'll probably do a little shopping today and tomorrow between packing and getting ready to go. What does this mean for you?

The sad news...
I will not be posting "My Favorite Deals" on Wednesday morning. I will work hard Thursday to get it up by the end of the day. Sheryl over at CentsAble Shoppin' does a great match-up, so check her blog on Wednesday for the newest sales. You can also check Pinching Your Pennies for a complete match-up.

The good news...
I have prepared lots of fun posts to keep you company until I get back...

I have created some Store Guides to help new couponers understand this complex world! I have created one for each of the 4 main grocery stores in Arizona - Albie's, Bashas', Fry's, & Safeway. Those will post over the next few days and then will be permanently linked to the top menu bar under "Store Guides".

I have also created a series called "Change the Way You Shop in One Week!" I am really excited about this and I wish someone would have laid it all out for me when I first started couponing. There will be one post per day and at the end of seven days, each newbie will have a toolbox of information and will be ready to attack the stores! Look for Day #1 on Monday, June 21!

See, you'll have plenty to keep you busy while I'm gone. You won't even miss me!
While I'm gone, I'll be hosting a fun contest. I'll be posting pictures of our vacation destination on Twitter. The first person to correctly identify my location will receive an envelope full of random coupons! Click here for my Twitter account. If you aren't already a Twitter follower, click here to get started - it is super easy!

Oh, also remember to log into your Cellfire account at 12pm (AZ time) today to get the Cinderella Cellfire coupon they are releasing! Click here at noon and then let us know if you got it and what it is!

Shopping Fry's - The Arizona Savings Way

Fry's is one of my favorite places to coupon shop. If I wasn't using coupons, I would absolutely shop at Fry's. Their prices are consistently lower than the other major grocery chains in Arizona. As if that weren't enough, Fry's regularly runs awesome sales and promos! When you time your shopping trip correctly with sales and promos and then stack coupons on top of that, you are in for major savings at Fry's and any of the Kroger affiliate stores (Kroger, QFC, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, City Market, Fry’s, Dillons, Baker’s, Gerbes, Smith’s, Jay-C, Owen’s, PayLess, Highlander, and Ralphs).

Step #1: You need a Fry's V.I.P. Card.
Stop into your local Fry's to pick up a Fry's V.I.P. card application, fill it out, and return it to your store. As soon as you have your card in hand, make a small purchase (candy bar, etc.) to activate your card. If you don't do this, it will take 6 weeks for the EQ sites to recognize your card as valid. This is a short-cut to start saving money immediately. Once you've got your card, click here to register it online at the Fry's website. This will enable you to enroll in the savings clubs Fry's offers and you'll also be able to load Fry's store EQs onto your card.

Step #2: Learn the kinds of coupons accepted by Fry's.

Manufacturer Coupons (from Sunday newspaper)
These coupons are found in the free standing inserts in your Sunday paper: Smart Source, Red Plum and Proctor & Gamble.

Internet Printable Coupons
Fry's accepts internet printable coupons. The coupons have to scan at the register in order for the cashier to accept them. They also must follow the same format as a manufacturer's coupon - redemption address, expiration date, and state "Maufacturer Coupon" somewhere on the coupon. Fry's will accept internet printable coupons for free products.

E-Coupons
E-Coupons equal tons of savings and money makers at Fry's. Load these coupons directly onto your club card. When you swipe your card or enter your phone number, the coupons automatically deduct when the cashier hits total & you can see them on your receipt. The cash register will still accept a manufacturer coupon in addition to an e-coupon, but they both are manufacturer coupons. This can change at any time, but for now Fry's allows the stacking of coupons. There are links to the major E-Coupon sites on the right side of my blog. Make sure you load these every 2 weeks as soon as the coupons are released. Sometimes, you end up with duplicate EQs on your card for the same item. When you purchase that item at Fry's, only one coupon will deduct for the one item. If you've ever used EQs, you know they are unpredictable and sometimes don't deduct as they should.

Catalina Coupons
At Fry's, you’ll find the gray Catalina machines sitting at the registers.

Other Retailer's Coupons
Fry's does not accept other retailer's coupons. Occasionally, Fry's will run a week long special where they accept competitor coupons, but this is rare and is not the norm.

Store Coupons
You can find them in the weekly store ad from your newspaper or located in the front of the store. Fry's allows using one store, one E-Coupon, and one manufacturer coupon per item. This means you can stack a Fry's store coupon, with a manufacturer coupon, and E-Coupons on one product. In-Ad Coupons sometimes require a minimum purchase. The minimum purchase is your subtotal before using any coupons. In-Ad Coupons often have limits. These limits are per transaction.

Printable Store Coupons
Fry's has some great printable and loadable store coupons here. Note: only some of the coupons are Fry's store coupons. The rest are standard manufacturer coupons, the same that you’ll find on any other printable coupon database.

Step #3: Now, we wait for the perfect sale.
If you head to the store with a handful of coupons and no plan, you'll spend more money than necessary. Wait until the sale price or promotion matches your coupons, so you can save big!

Fry's runs Mega Events where if you buy x number of items, you get $x off your entire order. Fry's also runs Catalina promos like: Spend $25, save $10 on your next shopping order. When you combine deals like these with coupons, you can get those really high savings of over 70%.

It's always better to spend Fry's money than actual cash.

What is Fry’s sale cycle?
Fry's sales and weekly ads begin Wednesday and end Tuesday. The new ad and "My Favorite Deals" for the week are posted each Wednesday morning.

Doubling Coupons
Fry's stores double coupons, usually 50 cents and under (up to a limit of 3 like couponsper transaction). Here in Arizona, we are lucky to live in one of the most competitve grocery markets in the country. This makes for awesome sales and fantastic coupon policies. Since earlier this year, Fry's has been holding a $1 coupon event. Any coupon under $1 equals $1. A 10 cent coupon equals $1. We don't know how long this will last, but soak it up while it's here!

Occasionally, Fry's will run a super coupon event where all coupons up to and including $1 are doubled. I haven't seen this event in a while, but when it runs there are always tons of freebies and awesome deals.

Does Fry's give discounts for bringing reusable shopping bags?
Yes! Fry's will deduct 5 cents for each reusable bag you bring from your transaction total.

Does Fry's offer a senior discount program?
If you're 55+, you can save an additional 10% on your food bill (less V.I.P savings, taxes, and coupons) the first Wednesday of every month.

Store Clubs

Fry's has a few fun programs that can help save you money:

Fuel Saver Rewards
Simply spend $100 on qualifying grocery purchases. For every $100 you spend in a calendar month, you earn a total of 10 cents off per gallon (up to 20 gallons) on your next fuel fill-up at any Fry’s Fuel Center locations. Limit 1 fuel discount per customer, per vehicle, per fuel fill-up. The $100 threshold is based off shelf price, not sales price. I rarely spend actual cash at Fry's and I have over 200 fuel points. Two other ways to earn fuel discounts are to purchase select gift cards purchased in our stores and/or have prescriptions filled in Fry's pharmacies. Click here for more info & to link your V.I.P. card up and start racking up those fuel points!

Phoenix Suns V.I.P Rewards Club
Purchase participating products, identified with special tags, and earn Exclusive Suns Rewards. Every $1 you spend on participating products earns you 1 Suns reward point. Accumulate these points throughout the season to cash in on new merchandise, autograph memorabilia, game tickets, game experiences, and more. Click here for more info & to link your V.I.P. card up and start racking up those Suns points!

Phoenix Diamondbacks V.I.P Rewards Program
Purchase participating products, identified with special tags, and earn Exclusive Suns Rewards. Every $1 you spend on participating products earns you 1 Suns reward point. Accumulate these points throughout the season to cash in on new merchandise, autograph memorabilia, game tickets, game experiences, and more. Shopping Albertson's - The Arizona Savings Way

Albertson's in Arizona is actually called Albertson's LLC. After a restructuring in 2006, Albertson's stores in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Florida were grouped under the Albertson's LLC umbrella. Any grocery deals you see posted in Utah and California do not apply here in Arizona. There are 240 Albertson's LLC grocery stores across the states mentioned above.

I do not regularly shop at Albertson's. I go when there are freebies and that's about it. Their regular store prices are unbelievably high, they don't regularly double coupons, and Albertson's does not participate in E-Coupons. I don't know if Albertson's ever will because they don't have a club card. I will say, they have excellent produce. Any fruits and vegetables I've ever purchased from Albie's have been wonderful!
.
Step #1: Learn the kinds of coupons accepted by Albertson's.

Manufacturer Coupons (from Sunday newspaper)
These coupons are found in the free standing inserts in your Sunday paper: Smart Source, Red Plum and Proctor & Gamble.

Internet Printable Coupons
Albertson's accepts internet printable coupons. The coupons have to scan at the register in order for the cashier to accept them. They also must follow the same format as a manufacturer's coupon - redemption address, expiration date, and state "Maufacturer Coupon" somewhere on the coupon.

E-Coupons
Albie's does not currently accept E-Coupons. If they ever do, you will be the first to know about it!

Catalina Coupons
At Albertson's, you’ll find the gray Catalina machines sitting at the registers.

Other Retailer's Coupons
Albie's used to accept competitor coupons. About 6 months ago, they stopped accepting competitor coupons ... hopefully that practice returns.

Store Coupons
You can find them in the weekly store ad from your newspaper or located in the front of the store. Albie's allows using one store and one manufacturer coupon per item. This means you can stack an Albertson's store coupon with a manufacturer coupon on one product. In-Ad Coupons usually require a minimum purchase. The minimum purchase is your subtotal before using any coupons. In-Ad Coupons usually have limits. These limits are per transaction. It has been my experience at Albie's, you have to ask the cashier to scan the in-ad Q as many times as items you are purchasing. The registers at Albie's aren't smart enought to know you bought 6 cans of tuna, you have to scan the coupon 6 times.

Step #2: Now, we wait for the perfect sale.
If you head to the store with a handful of coupons and no plan, you'll spend more money than necessary. Wait until the sale price or promotion matches your coupons, so you can save big!

Occasionally, Albie's runs Catalina promos like: Spend $25, save $10 on your next shopping order.

It's always better to spend Albie's money than actual cash.

What is Albie's sale cycle?
Albie's sales and weekly ads begin Wednesday and end Tuesday. The new ad and "My Favorite Deals" for the week are posted each Wednesday morning.

Does Albie's offer a senior discount program?
If you're 55+, you can save an additional 10% on your food bill the first Wednesday of every month. Albie's also offers a 10% military discount the first Wednesday of each month. A minimum purchase amount may be required.

Doubling Coupons
Albie's does not regularly double coupons. Occasionally, Albie's will advertise a coupon event where coupons are doubled, tripled, and quadrupled. Coupons will be doubled up to a limit of 3 like coupons.
